Cute Baby Sea Otters at Monterey Bay Aquarium

6 June 2009 656 views 7 Comments

Sea Otters at the Monterey Bay AquariumI love the Monterey Bay Aquarium. And so do a lot of others. It really is world famous and people from around the world come to see the fabulous exhibits. You’ll catch a few locals there, too.

One great program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium is the Sea Otter exhibit. These wonderful sea otters came to the Aquarium as rescued animals that were not able to survive in the wild. They are quite at home, though, and you can see them romp and tumble just as they would in the wild.

Make sure to catch the daily sea otter program where you can watch the aquarists feed and train sea otters, and learn about otters in the wild. The times are daily: 10:30, 1:30, and 3:30.

This is a really cool video that really explains the program to use surrogate otters to care for abandoned pups and teach them to forage and other skills they’ll need to survive.

Otters are great, I’m just blown away by animals using tools. Props to the aquarium for throwing in and helping.

In the mid ’70’s I had the extreme pleasure of watching and photographing wild otters in the Bay while visiting Monterrey. Thanks for rekindling the memories. I’m gonna have to dig out my old pictures now!

Hey Tom, if you find any of those old pictures, feel free to post one here. The otters sure are something to watch.

This article brought back some memories for me also. Years ago, I used to live up on 17 Mile Drive and spent lots of time watching the otters play (and golfing of course).

As Bob Hope would say, Thanks For The Memories!

I used to live in Berkeley back in the early 70’s. One of my favorite things to do was to go down to Fisherman’s Warf and then up on the hill to sit and watch the Golden Gate Bridge and take in all that my senses could grasp.

Of course the sea otters were a part of this and always were fun to watch.

I loved the video. My daughter and I visited the aquarium several years ago and I think the otters were the best part. She liked the jellyfish most. But you can’t beat otters especially babies!
