Monterey Bike and Hiking Trails are the First to Be Mapped by Google
Google is not one to sit on their laurels. They are apparently sitting on cycles instead—ones equipped with their nifty 360-degree cameras that they’ve been using to take street views of the world. Google is now venturing to the bike and hiking trails to map out the beauty that can be found off-road. And can you believe, it’s Monterey Bay that they decided to capture first.
I decided to check out this new mapping services from Google. I’d heard on the news that all I had to do was go to Google Maps and type in Monterey, CA and I’d be taken to the trail. Oh also, you need to drag the little yellow guy in the top left corner to the map and you are transported immediately to street-view.
Although the top of every screen reads “Monterey Bay Coastal Bike Path,” it actually took me a while to center in on the bike path itself, instead of the streets. There should be an easier way.

The whole 3-D view is pretty amazing. Follow along the path, turn around in circles, you get a birds-eye view of Monterey. What’s also awesome is how good the resolution and clarity of the pictures are. Way to go, Google.
