Will Smith and the Monterey Aquarium

21 December 2008 1,059 views 2 Comments

Last night I went with friends to see Will Smith’s latest movie, 7 Pounds. I am glad I didn’t really know all about it; I had just heard it was about “giving back” and altruism. Little did I know the Monterey Bay Aquarium would play an integral part in the movie!

Will Smith’s character was a tormented soul; the movie had several flashbacks to explain why he was the way he was, and how his plans played out in the end.

In one flashback, the character was a child on a trip with his family to the Monterey Aquarium. He found the jellyfish fascinating, and the fact that the surreal, graceful, and fragile-looking square jellyfish were among the most venomous of creatures stayed with him.

The rhythmic, pulsating movements of these jellies draws you toward them; the darkened exhibit area is the perfect backdrop. This video features several types of jellies.

Want to know how the jelly fit into the movie? Go see it…
