Wynona Judd’s Country Christmas Concert in Monterey
Wynona Judd performed December 11 at the Golden State Theater in Monterey. Wynona received more than a warm welcome; the hoots and yells lit up her face.
The acoustics were excellent and Wynona and her talented musicians seemed to enjoy the concert as much as the packed house. Ms. Judd chatted between songs about her childhood as part of an all-female poor southern family who used song as their entertainment, years on the road with her mother Naomi Judd, her sister Ashley, her children (who were camped out in the tour bus), her long-time guitarist, and even how she spent the day in Monterey, out on the bay.
And her voice! Just when you thought you had been blown away by its power, Wynona somehow deepened it even more, beautifully. Between the command of music, the southern history and her dramatic long velvet wrap, a friend said, “She’s like a female Elvis!”
The music was a mix of classic Christmas songs, with her own hits as well. No one wanted the concert to end. Thank you Ms. Judd, and Happy Holidays to you.
Monterey is the perfect place for musicians to perform on their way between L.A. and San Francisco; hope great talents keep coming our way.
